Set in 1630, “The Witch” follows a God fearing New England family as they leave their village to start a new life in the wilderness.
As the family gets settled in they soon realize they are not alone as their newborn baby goes missing deep into the woods. This sets off a chain of events that come fast and furious as the family begins to slowly turn on one another.
This isn’t a horror movie that uses jump scares to freak out their audience. Instead they use a creepy setting, unique time period dialogue, and a score straight from hell to do that.
The dialogue came straight from journals from that time period, while it may not be a “True Story” it sure feels like one when you are watching it.
The biggest disappointment some will find is the ending, while we enjoyed it, it may not be your cup of tea. Prepare for an unsettling and uncomfortable movie watching experience.
